Here’s what you need to know about the procedure, according to a doctor.

Earlier this month, Chrissy Teigen admitted she has had liposuction to get rid of her armpit fat but denied having extensive surgery on her face and body.

The 31-year-old star opened up about her looks in a new interview with Byrdie where she joked her whole body is “fake” – trouble is, Teigen was taken seriously.

The mum-of-one tweeted: “Reminder to never ever joke, ever (I did do the armpits, no regrets except it clearly came back).”

“I think she has had arm and axilla liposuction,” says Dr Meaghan Heckenberg, Sydney-based cosmetic physician and liposculptor. “I feel that her anterior axillary areas are a little underdone and perhaps she could have had more done here. You have to be careful however as it can be a fine balance to get it right.”

Explains why Teigen, who says she had the secret procedure nine years ago, is considering repeating it, telling Refinery29, “It was the dumbest, stupidest thing I’ve ever done. The dumbest, but I like it, whatever. I have no regrets, honestly.”

Yep, Chrissy Teigen got liposuction and she doesn’t care what you think about it.

Heckenberg says this type of tailored fat removal costs around $6900 for “arms, axilla and upper outer back area, all inclusive of theatre fee, procedure fee and all consultations.”

“Many patients are good candidates for this procedure. Genetics has a large role here and despite diet and exercise some people have fatty arms and axilla and can be thin everywhere else,” she says.

“We are all different and may have more fat in one place compared to another. Careful drawings are made on the skin before the procedure so once the local anaesthetic has been injected, the landmarks are still there to allow for tailored liposculpture. Each practitioner has his or her own special drawings which represent significant landmarks for the procedure to be done effectively.”

The news is sure to divide, but whether you’re for or against cosmetic procedures, we all know Chrissy not-one-to-bite-her-tongue Teigen’s opinion.
